Modern learning techniques are utilized to ensure students learn in the most effective and interesting atmosphere. The Full-Time ESL Program at LLI is based on a minimum of 23 hours of study per week. After an assessment test is completed, the students are placed in an appropriate level corresponding with their abilities in Speaking, Listening, Reading, Grammar and Writing. LLI recognizes that students from different cultures that come to Canada to study ESL will have varying strengths and weaknesses in the different components of the English language. Our curriculum can cater to these differences by allowing students to study at a corresponding level for each of the components (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Grammar and Writing) rather than a uniform level. This possibility of differential levels allows a student to maximize their learning potential.

IELTS

The IELTS course follows a similar teaching methodology to TOEFL. Many sudents prefer to take an IELTS program as it is a hands on test and does not include a computer. The LLI curriculum follows the official IELTS guidlines and includes all areas of preparation.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)...

... is a standardized test designed to measure an individual's proficiency in English. Universities, Colleges, and other academic institutions in the United States and Canada require International students to provide proof of the English abilities by obtaining a minimum score. In addition, many employers around the world will require a minimum TOEFL score for employees working in a career requiring knowledge of the English language.

The TOEFL Success program at London Language Institute is designed to assist students meet their TOEFL needs. The program is divided among the four sections of the TOEFL: Listening Comprehension, Written Expression, Reading Comprehension, and Speaking. The TOEFL Success! program differs from many other programs, as it not only teaches test-taking strategies, but also the language required to succeed on the test and in future academic or career endeavours. This program is designed for the iBT TOEFL test.

Students will be required to complete an initial TOEFL assessment to record a baseline score. A complete TOEFL practice test will be administered half-way through the program, and at the end of the program.

The program is based on the new TOEFL format (iBT).

The complete program is 12-weeks in duration, however it is possible to join the course for shorter lengths of time for short-term upgrading. This program has continuous intake.

The TESOL Certificate Program offered at London Language Institute is an ESL teacher training course with 100 hours of classroom instruction and a 20-hour supervised practicum.

LLI can accept students into the TESOL program with our in-house assessment or completion of LEVEL 8 at LLI.

Using the ACE Method, trainees explore teaching, learning and language through task-based, participatory and interactive experiences. The content is based upon the most recent research in language acquisition and language education.

The ACE TESOL Certificate offered at London Language Institute meets the guidelines of TESL Canada.

All applicants must possess a secondary school diploma. It is recommended that applicants possess an undergraduate degree. Applicants without an undergraduate degree may be accepted, but will not qualify for TESL Canada certification.

Non-native speakers of English must have a demonstrated proficiency in the English language, and will be required to provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants whose first language is not English can demonstrate English proficiency through results from a standardized test as outlined below:

- TOEFL - CBT 213 / PBT 550, TWE - 5 recommend 5.5, TSE - 60 recommend 60
- TOEFL iBT - 80 overall with a minimum score of 20 in each area
- IELTS - 6.5 overall
- MELAB - 85/speaking test score of 4
- Can Test - Listening, reading, writing 5, speaking 4.5
- CAEL - Band 60 overall with a minimum of 60 in each of the writing and speaking subsets
- Common European Framework - C1
- Canadian Language Benchmarks - CLB 9 in each area
- High school graduation from a Canadian high school, including a minimum Grade 12 English score of 70%
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from an English-speaking University

The total cost of the ACE TESOL Certificate program is $1500. This fee includes textbooks and materials.

Homestay accommodation is available during the course of study at a rate of $700 per month. Accommodation includes room and board with a Canadian homestay.
