After more than 20 years running businesses, I’ve realised that most problems can be fixed.
Some take longer than others, and some are expensive lessons, but very few are worth panicking over.
In education and migration, I’ve seen plenty of situations where something goes wrong at the worst possible time.
– A visa application has a last-minute issue.
– A staff member makes a mistake.
– A deadline is approaching, and important information is missing.
When you are less experienced, everything feels urgent. You immediately start imagining the worst possible outcome.
These days, I tend to approach things differently.
-> First, understand what actually happened.
-> Then work out what can be done, who needs to be involved and what needs to happen next.
Sometimes the solution is straightforward. Sometimes it takes a few days and several conversations. And sometimes you simply have to accept the consequences and move forward.
Experience doesn’t stop problems from happening. It teaches you that getting upset rarely helps solve them. Stay calm, understand the problem and get on with fixing it.
