Increased fees
From 1 July 2025, the fee to review a migration decision (excluding protection visas) will increase to $3,580. A 50% fee reduction may be available on the basis of financial hardship.
Current Review Timeframes (based on final AAT data):
- Student Visa Review: 761 days
- Partner Visa Review: 1,690 days (≈ 4 years, 8 months)
- Sponsorship Visa Review: 1,609 days (≈ 4 years, 6 months)
The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) has yet to release updated processing times. However, with 35,536 student visa refusal cases currently awaiting review, the real backlog may stretch into 8 years without significant reform or resource increases. The published 761-day estimate is likely to grow rapidly as the volume of applications increases.
Applicants and migration agents must prepare for longer wait times, higher costs, and greater uncertainty in the appeal process.
