Based on the recent data, the <strong>Philippines, India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand<\/strong> incurred rejection rates between <strong>80\u201390%, while South America<\/strong> rejection rates are around <strong>30\u201340% and Europe<\/strong> the rejection rates are below <strong>10%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Understanding why applications are refused can help prospective students avoid common mistakes. Below are the most frequent reasons for refusals, along with key considerations for each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Not Meeting the Genuine Student (GS) Requirement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most critical factors in any student visa application is proving you are a <strong>genuine student<\/strong>. The GS (which replaced the <strong>Genuine Student requirement<\/strong> in 2024) is designed to ensure that applicants are coming to Australia for study purposes, not for other motives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must explain clearly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why they chose their provider and course<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How the course links to their future career, including salary\/employment prospects<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why they are not studying a similar course in their home country<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evidence of knowledge about the provider, living arrangements, finances, and prior study<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The relevance of the qualification to their long-term plans<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immigration history (previous visa refusals or cancellations)<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Not Meeting English Language Requirements<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency appropriate to their level of study. Only students enrolling in <strong>ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses)<\/strong> are exempt, as they are taking English classes as part of their course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Insufficient Financial Funds<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From <strong>1 October 2023<\/strong>, applicants must show evidence of at least <strong>AUD $29,710<\/strong> in available funds for living costs (in addition to tuition). Inadequate Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>OSHC is compulsory for the entire duration of study. The OSHC certificate must include policy dates, number, and conditions. Missing or insufficient OSHC coverage will result in visa refusal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Failing the Character Test<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants undergo a character check. Authorities may request police clearances from every country lived in for <strong>12+ months within the past 10 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any criminal record, misleading declarations, or past visa cancellations can lead to refusal.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In serious cases, applicants may face a <strong>3-year ban<\/strong> on reapplying.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Failing the Health Examination<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must meet strict medical requirements.
