Ethical advising means setting expectations based on the strict criteria set by the Department of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a reminder of the key requirements every student must address, at a minimum, in their Genuine Student (GS) Statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Academic Background &#8211; <\/strong>Past studies, qualifications, transcripts, and institutions attended.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Employment History &#8211; <\/strong>Roles held, length of employment, and evidence such as payslips or letters.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Personal Circumstances &#8211; <\/strong>Family details, income sources, ties to home country (property, employment, responsibilities).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Course and Provider Selection &#8211; <\/strong>Why this course and institution? How does it align with the student\u2019s career path?<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Financial Stability &#8211; <\/strong>Evidence of funds: savings, scholarships, or sponsorships.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Future Goals &#8211; <\/strong>Career aspirations post-study and how the course supports those plans in their home country.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who are high-risk applicants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While every case is unique, these factors often indicate higher scrutiny and possible refusal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Over 30 and unemployed for several years<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frequently changing low-wage jobs<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Residing long-term in English-speaking countries but applying for General English<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applying with entire family (spouse + kids) for short\/low-skilled course<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short General English course applications<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History of visa refusals, overstays, or cancellations<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Criminal history or serious medical complications<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Be the Advisor They Deserve<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>An ethical agent doesn\u2019t just help students apply, they help them make informed decisions.
