Visa refusal gibberish continues
For amusement (and professional frustration), here’s an extract from a student visa refusal that manages to agree with the applicant… and then refuse them anyway.
“The applicant has provided reasonable reasons for undertaking study in Australia, including the value of studying ELICOS in an English-speaking country.”
So far, so good.
“I note the immediate family members of the applicant will remain in their home country while they study in Australia and place some weight on that in favour of the applicant.”
Still positive.
“While I note the applicant has provided some evidence of funds … financial sponsor’s income does not satisfy me that they would have been able to accumulate such a large amount of funds. On this basis, I consider that the significant cost of the course is unlikely to be offset by the potential income derived by the applicant in their expected employment field.”
Pause.
We’ve now shifted from funds available to hypothetical future income, which is… not actually the test.
“While I accept that the applicant is currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree, the evidence provided indicates that they have only recently commenced this course, in 2025. Thus, I am satisfied that they have not yet made a major investment in time and effort that would represent a significant incentive to return and resume this course.”
So enrolling is… bad?
“Therefore, I am unable to be satisfied that the applicant has strong educational ties to their home country. I place little weight on the applicant’s educational ties to their home country.”
Noted.
“The applicant gave details of all past and current studies at secondary level and above in their home country, including the dates of study.”
Okay.
“However, the applicant has only provided an enrolment letter and no other evidence, by way of academic transcripts or otherwise, to substantiate their study history.”
Despite already acknowledging their study history.
“This raises significant concern regarding the applicant’s commitment / intentions to study in Australia.”
And there it is.
