IELTS Announces Corrections to Test Results Issued Between August 2023 and September 2025
IELTS has confirmed that some test results issued between August 2023 and September 2025 were affected by a technical issue impacting the listening and reading components of a number of IELTS Academic and General Training tests. As a result, revised scores have now been issued to affected candidates.
According to IELTS, the issue resulted in some candidates receiving scores that were either higher or lower than they should have been. The majority of score adjustments were upward, with some changes involving a difference of 0.5 band. Updated results have been sent directly to candidates, along with information on next steps.
IELTS states that over 99% of tests administered during this period were not affected, and that current IELTS testing operations are functioning normally. Affected candidates have been contacted and offered refunds or free resits, and relevant recognising organisations have also been notified.
The organisation has noted that it maintains “strict quality control procedures” and has taken steps to ensure this type of issue does not occur again. A dedicated support page has been created to provide further guidance, including answers to commonly asked questions and instructions on accessing revised scores.
Industry observers have highlighted that test result accuracy is critical due to the high-stakes nature of IELTS outcomes, which may influence academic admissions, professional registration, and immigration applications. Some candidates may have made decisions or missed opportunities based on their original scores, while others may now find that their updated results meet requirements they previously fell short of.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
