Labor has effectively shut down the Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) today.
It is the first use of the government’s new course cancellation powers.
Transfers into this diploma went from 510 in 2020 to 4,000 in 2025.
Existing students can finish.
New recruitment and enrolments are no longer available.
A personal note. This is a VET qualification. It was never a pathway to the 485 Temporary Graduate visa. Whatever those 4,000 transfers were actually about, an extended stay through post study work rights was not one of them.
That information did not make it into a single headline I saw today.
4,000 transfers, most of them people already studying in Australia and simply switching courses, is not the number the coverage is treating it as.
Furthermore, the enforcement should sit with the VET regulator, not the federal government.
Just another shot at international education. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of them this year.
