Aggressive Recruitment: Where is the Balance?
It is becoming public knowledge that some providers in the Australian international education sector are pushing the limits.
- commissions of up to 60% of student tuition fees
- $1,000 “cash-back” offers to agents upon enrolment
- enrolling students through a low-risk, partner campus to secure visas, then transferring them into a high-risk provider immediately after arrival.
So where is the line? At what point does aggressive marketing become an issue for the whole industry?
These practices raise serious questions and highlight the implications of the recent policies for the international industry.
And if these providers don’t clean up their act, someone else will, more likely through legislation, enforcement, and public scrutiny of the whole private sector.
